The Best Restaurants in Roxborough & Manayunk
The Restaurants & Cafes You’ve Gotta Try in Roxborough and Manayunk
The Roxborough Manayunk area is home to tons of great local places to eat and drink. From breakfast and brunch, great coffee shops, local sandwich shops, gastropubs, pizza, and desserts there’s always somewhere new to check out which makes this a great neighborhood to live in. Wandering down and around the hills of Roxborough and Manayunk, and meandering along the Manayunk Canal, you’re bound to come across one of the many restaurants, bars, cafes, and ice cream shops for which this area is recognized… and there are many.
While one of the best ways to explore the neighborhood is by walking around and ending up in a restaurant that’s emitting the delicious smell of pizza, or aimlessly walking down Main Street until a sign catches your eye, sometimes a little guidance can be helpful.
Below I’ve rounded up some of the must-try spots to eat, drink, and indulge in the Roxborough Manayunk area. Have something to add to the list? Email me – I’m always looking for new recommendations! Here’s my guide to the best restaurants in Roxborough & Manayunk.
The Best Cafes in Roxborough & Manayunk
Serving La Colombe coffee and a variety of teas, pastries, bagels and sandwiches, this Main Street staple has been in the area for awhile. Sit inside and enjoy the coffee shop aromas, or people-watch outside along Main Street, right by the Manayunk Bridge Trail [LINK to trails article]
On the other end of Main Street in Manayunk is this small batch coffee roastery, sourcing its beans from the best coffee farms on earth. Sit inside or out and enjoy hot or iced coffee, premium tea, and light breakfast fare from Philly Bread Co. and Au Fornil Bakery, available all day.
Best Breakfast & Brunch Restaurants in Roxborough & Manayunk
Serving breakfast all day, this Main Street eatery has won Best of Manayunk awards for Best Brunch (2017) and Best Breakfast (2016) and for good reason. Greg’s Kitchen combines traditional plates and modern favorites for an extensive breakfast menu that’s available all day.
This bright and modern brunch eatery along Ridge Ave has been around since 1960, serving breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches and more. They serve La Colombe coffee, it’s BYOB, and there’s outdoor seating (with umbrellas) on the back deck.
If you love an old-fashioned diner and want to enjoy a solid diner meal then Bob’s Diner is the place to go. This classic 1940’s diner hasn’t changed much over the years but the service is friendly and the food is good and filling.
This is often a go-to recommendation for anyone seeking a delicious brunch in Manayunk, as their brunch menu is extensive, though they’re open for dinner, too. Winnie’s has a wide variety of items ranging from healthy to indulgent, from breakfast to exquisite dinner entrees. It’s been in the area since 2003 – a neighborhood staple!
Best Lunch & Dinner Restaurants in Roxborough & Manayunk
My family and I visit this Mexican street food restaurant along Main Street in Manayunk at least once a week. There’s a great selection of tacos and modern Mexican eats, plus margaritas and tequila flights, and they’re super accommodating for gluten-free eaters. The staff is awesome, too, which is the main reason we keep going back week after week!
Han Dynasty, which also has locations in the city, is housed in a historic building along Main Street, was voted one of the Best Chinese Restaurants in America by CNN. There’s something for everyone on their menu, and plenty of seating for big groups.
A Manayunk classic, this cafe/bistro along a cobblestone street in Manayunk has great artisan pizzas, Italian-style entrees, and a ton of plant-based options.
With great views of the Manayunk Canal, local hot spot Bourbon Blue serves up dinner daily, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The “new American cuisine” menu has items like an Alligator Sausage Quesadilla, Gumbo Ya Ya, and Jambalaya – absolutely worth checking out when dining along Main Street.
My daughter and I are big fans of this new locally-owned Italian restaurant along Ridge Ave, right near the Wissahickon train station, has great homemade pasta and pizza, is BYOB, and has great specials, especially during Happy Hour.
Homemade Meatball and Italian hoagies are specialties at this recently opened neighborhood deli. Owner Ryan Haggerty loves the deli business and it shows!
Lennie’s Hoagies is a personal favorite of mine, and I cannot recommend “The Godfather” more – you gotta try it, along with the Cajun Catfish sandwich that they just added to the menu. Lennie’s Hoagies is a must along Ridge Ave – super authentic, and very affordable. Tip: order in advance and it’ll be ready for you for pick-up shortly after!
The square pie favorite from South Philly has made a name for itself in Philly, and the Roxborough location on Ridge Ave is always busy. There’s free parking, and it’s BYOB!
The Roxborough outpost of this Philly bottle shop has a great beer selection, and an extensive sandwich menu, too. Dine in, or take out, and be sure to grab a six-pack of your favorite local brews!
An Irish pub with excellent wings and burgers. This is one of my favorite places for outdoor dining plus they have a parking lot which is always a bonus.
Under new ownership since Winter of 2019, Tavern on Ridge has a great staff and great food. As of August 25th, they will be bringing barbecue to the menu with a collaboration with Darling Nikki’s BBQ.
One of the great losses for our neighborhood was when the garage that housed the original Deke’s BBQ was sold and demolished. Fortunately, you can still get Deke’s BBQ from their take-out and catering location on Ridge Ave near the Wissahickon Transfer Station and from their food truck at various locations throughout town.
The White Yak is one of the more recent, and unique, additions to the food scene in Roxborough & Manayunk. It’s the only Tibetan restaurant in Philadelphia so there’s really nothing else that compares but Tibetan food is a bit of mix of Chinese and Indian. The Momos, or dumplings, are some of the best in the city. Check them out at 6118 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128.
If you’ve ever wanted to try Jamaican Korean fusion, this is the place to go. Never heard of Jamaican Korean fusion? Well, that’s because this may be the only place in the world that you can get it. The restaurant is owned by two brothers whose parents are from each country. Contrary to the name, not every dish is spicy. They have a ton of unique options and it’s definitely the place to try if you like to explore different types of foods. The staff is very friendly and my daughter loves watching the cooks at work through the kitchen window while they work.
The Goat’s Beard offers fresh and unique American fare that features local ingredients in a menu that’s often updated based on the seasons and availability. Many of the dishes are smaller plates which makes it easy to try a few things or share. They make a great burger but my personal favorites are the Steak Mac & Cheese and the Spring Lamb.
The inside of this Main Street brewpub is huge, with tons of space for large groups and private parties, and the outside has some of the best views of the Manayunk Canal. Enjoy live music on the weekends, locally-brewed beer (insider tip: try the flight!), and a huge menu filled with everything from burgers to dinner entrees to sushi and sashimi.
Best Ice Cream & Desserts in Roxborough & Manayunk
Tubby Robot is another one of my family’s favorite spots along Main Street. It’s owned by two friends who both loved ice cream and video games, and decided to open a homemade ice cream shop where you can play video games. What can be better?
One of the best Italian bakeries in Philly! Cafe Roma has incredible cakes and pastries, and has been serving up the sweetest treats for years. Order a custom-designed cake for your next celebration, or stop here for dessert like cookies, pies, donuts, muffins and turnovers.
Affectionately referred to as simply “the custard stand,” C & C Creamery on the corner of Ridge Ave and Hermit Street has the best homemade ice cream in a ton of different flavors, including seasonal favorites during the fall. A personal favorite of mine are the Glaciers – they’re like a blizzard, but better. Don’t be thrown off by the long lines – that just shows you how good it is, plus it moves quickly!
