Moving During Covid 19 | Philadelphia, PA

By Jon Miller, Realtor®

Moving during Covid 19 means there are plenty of new and unique challenges. One of the first questions you may have is whether or not it’s even possible to move. Moving companies are open and operating in Pennsylvania. In the video below I spoke with Ryan Hegarty of Olympia Moving & Storage about how they are helping clients move during this difficult time.

Can I Move During Covid 19?

Moving during Covid 19 means there will be some unique and new challenges, but you can move during Covid 19. Currently (as of April 10, 2020), Pennsylvania considers real estate a non-essential business. In essence, that means that buyers can’t see homes in-person, Realtors can’t show homes, and home inspections can’t be performed.

However, transactions that went under contract prior to March 6 can be completed provided certain safety and social distancing measures are followed. New transactions can also be completed with major limitations on social distancing (including not being able to actually visit a home in-person).

You can still move during Covid 19. Moving companies do have to take precautions to protect both the public and themselves.

Are Moving Companies Open?

Ryan says that the question he’s getting the most right now is “Are you open for business?”

Olympia Moving & Storage is open for business. He tells me that moving companies are considered essential businesses in Pennsylvania under the trucking category. Of course, they are taking extra steps to keep both clients, the public, and their staff safe. You can read about the steps that Ryan and his company are taking at

Moving Delays and Cancellations

Ryan and his company understand that there can be changes in customer’s plans. There may be delays and even cancellations. In the video, Ryan says that they have been working with clients on making arrangements when delays happen and they are providing refunds in the case of cancellations.
