In the Fall of 2017 I was dropping something off at a friend’s house and as I was leaving I remembered that she worked for a non-profit company. Having worked in non-profits I knew they were always in search of volunteers. I had been looking for a way to give back and when she told me about her company I had to find out more. Within a week, I had a meeting set up with Barbara Ballard and Frank Guthridge of KenCrest who were kind enough to meet me for coffee at the Whole Foods in Plymouth meeting where they told me more about KenCrest and we walked away with a few ideas of how to get involved.
Calling all Volunteers!
Looking for a way to give back to the community? Join your neighbors on Monday, March 26th, as we donate our time to KenCrest. We’ll help this amazing non-profit organization with touch-up painting and landscaping at their facility on Green Lane.
“KenCrest exists to ensure that all people who have, or are at risk of having, intellectual disabilities and autism can live well in their communities, earn the respect of others, and control their own lives. Since our founding in 1905, KenCrest has delivered all supports with firm commitment to our core values of positive approaches, caring spirit, innovation, reach, and outcomes.”
For the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service this year I was joined by local volunteers to do some painting at one of KenCrest’s community homes. KenCrest provides an array of services for people with mental challenges and autism. Their community homes provide housing and services for clients with these special needs. It’s great to be able to help such a great organization.
I’d like to thank my fellow volunteers who came out to help with the project. One of those volunteers, Michael Gebhardt (The German Painter), is a professional painter who’s done work for many of my clients so it was great to get to work side by side with a pro on this project. Of course, his expertise and professional equipment were extremely helpful, too.
We had a great time volunteering and we were able to get more done than we had hoped. Michael repainted a bed
room for a new resident who will be moving in soon while the rest of us repainted baseboards, heaters, and window sills throughout the first floor of the house. All in all, a great day! Thank you to KenCrest for having us and thank you to Michael, Hui Sy, and Janet for joining me for the 2018 MLK Day of Service.
